The Cycle of Mars Retrograde in Cancer/Gemini 2007-2008Mercury went retrograde on May 26th at 21 degrees Gemini. Ordinarily this period is linked to breakdowns in all forms of communication, verbal, written, computers, etc. What it is not often thought about are the breakthroughs that can occur during this time. Mercury is in Gemini right now. The planet Mercury governs our mental processes and the energy of Gemini is very active - frequently pulling information from many sources at one time and needing to share that information. However, with Mercury retrograde it is a time to go inward and pull back. Any retrograde period generally causes one to slow down and be more introspective. I personally welcome these times as it gives me permission to take that much needed breath and retrospectively look within to see what has been working and what has not been working. Where am I spinning my wheels and what do I really need to pay attention to and focus my thoughts on now. I’ve had several conversations with people recently that have been feeling scattered over the past six months and a sense of desperation in the mass consciousness. If we are personally experiencing that in our own lives, we tend to absorb what the masses are feeling and so it is even more exaggerated. I encourage you to take full advantage of the next three to four weeks to go inward, think and ponder with laser beam focus and brutal honesty about where you are needing to go and what you need to do to get there. Look back at what you have been doing see what activities might need paring down. A shift in your thinking may be in order as to how you’ve gone about things thus far. What worked and why, what didn’t work. The clearer you can become through this process the better prepared you will be to take the necessary steps at arriving where you want/need to be in your life. Remember breakdowns lead to breakthroughs. When you have a clear mind you won’t be as susceptible to the pressures of the mass consciousness. When our minds are clear we can really think, focus and be creative and we have better mental stamina and physical energy. Focus, focus, focus is what is being called for. By:

This is a cycle of mars where it appears Mars is transiting backwards in relationship to the earth. The planets don’t really move backwards in the solar system, but due to the current orbits, it appears so. This effects us all energetically. We all know about mercury retrograde, the planet of communication going backwards and messing up our transportation and communication. Well, mars does the same thing about once every 2 years but it rules our action, our will, and how we project ourselves in the world…not to mention our sexuality. So when mars transits backwards in accordance to the earth, we feel a backwards or inward reflection of these areas. 
How will mars retrograde effect you? Look at the house mars will be going through and what house mars rules in your chart…then take the possible outcomes and apply them to that area. My advice is to be patient and realize this is a time for planning for future action, not acting on them. Hasty action and touchiness is bound to occur but awareness can make it easier. If you have Gemini and Cancer strong in your chart…take heed. Any retrograde cycle is a time of fated events which we have no control over. This may not necessarily mean bad events, but fated events.
